Love and solidarity to arms trade resisters
Christianity Uncut is pleased to extend greetings of love and solidarity to seven people of varied religions and none who are in court this week for peacefully resisting the London arms fair. The seven will appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court in London on Monday 4th November.
The seven include Siobhan Grimes, a member of Christianity Uncut’s co-ordinating group. But this is not a specifically Christian group (unlike the five Christianity Uncut supporters who were arrested at a different point in the arms fair, who will be tried in February). But we offer just as much support, just as much love and just as much admiration to all of them. We are not sectarian.
The seven are charged with breaking the law because they peacefully sat in the road to prevent access to the London arms fair, a place at which dictators’ representatives met with arms dealers. In a perverse and sinful political system, it is the people preventing violence who face trial, while those who profit from it receive government subsidies as the welfare state is slashed.
In the future, people will not understand how this can happen. Many of us can’t now. You can join a peaceful demonstration outside the court from 9.00am or send them a message of support via the Stop the Arms Fair website.
